Forest development tax is state levied tax on forest produce like grass, amla, bark, lac, honey, silk cocoons and bamboo etc. In Karnataka it is levied under Karnataka Forests Act, 1963. In August 2008 the Karnataka government issued a notification listing ore and minerals under forest produce. Miners protested this move and went to high court. This tax always been in high court for interpretation.
