Digital transformation (DT) is the use of technology to radically improve performance or reach of enterprises.
There is a growing global community of digital citizens — individuals who are always connected. These individuals are placing new and greater demands on the businesses with which they interact and keeping pace with those demands may well be a "make-or-break" situation
New technologies have forever changed the rules of business by democratizing information and rewiring customer expectations. The top-reported customer expectations include faster access to services, 24/7 and "everywhere" access and connectivity, access on more devices and a more unique, personalized experience.
There is a positive correlation between business performance and the emerging technologies, companies are fast-forwarding to digital transformation. Customer expectations are changing faster than what IT teams can anticipate. So companies are facing very tough challenges in this digital transformation.

Challenge:

Most companies say their digital processes are only partially integrated with their traditional business functions, and very few claim to be able to present a seamless customer experience across channels. A big challenge is the change in the IT customer who is now behaving like a consumer.
There is less awareness in old enterprises about this digital transformation. This is putting whole industry at risk to meet the demand of customers.
Cloud is considered as best solution for many infrastructural issues. But, public cloud also comes with issues of security and policies regarding backing up of data.
There is need for massive re-skilling investments at fast pace. Existing staff might resist change.
Companies are fast-forwarding to new technologies, often fearing competition. In the 1950s the average age of a company in the Standard & Poor’s index was about 60 years. It’s trending towards 15 years now, and we think it’s going to be about 12 years by 2020.
Rapidly evolving technology and high expectations of customers put pressure on companies.
Companies are facing various iIssues like security, organizational silos, cultural biases, legacy processes, lack of innovative thinking, risk averseness etc.
