Chief minister Virbhadra Singh inaugurated the first stage of Kashang hydel project in Kinnaur district.
Observing that Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) had not conducted the cumulative assessment for 130 MW integrated Kashang hydro project in Kinnaur district, National Green Tribunal (NGT) in May last year had directed to ensure that the entire proposal pertaining to forest clearance in respect of stages II and III of project is placed before the Gram Sabha of affected villages (Lippa, Rarang, Pangi and Telangi) as prescribed under the provisions of Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006.
The project-hit families would be provided 100 units free electricity per month once the project is fully commissioned. The state government was giving financial assistance in lieu of forest customary rights for 500 days minimum wages for labour and disbursed it to 510 families. Rehabilitation and resettlement had been paid up to the tune of Rs 90 lakh to those who lost their land because of commissioning of the project.
