Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has laid the foundation stone of the state’s first waste-to-energy plant at Bandhwari village on the Faridabad-Gurugram highway. Claimed to be the largest such plant in the country, it is slated to produce nearly 10 MW of power from August 2019. The plant will be built and operated by EcoGreen, a Chinese company.
Criticism: Residents of several villages, including Bandhwari, Mangar, Fatehpur, Dera and Baliawas, located in the region have been raising their voice against the location of the plant claiming that leachate (liquid waste) from the garbage dumped here has already polluted the groundwater and has been a major cause of sharp increase in cancer cases
