In spite of the hasty implementation of the Rashtriya Uchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), which created a turmoil, Himachal has topped in the utilisation of funds under RUSA followed by West Bengal and Orissa. Himachal was the first state to adopt RUSA in 2013-14 and earned the wrath but it succeeded in utilising nearly 80 per cent funds. The Project Approval Board (PAB) had sanctioned Rs 226 crore of which Rs 162 crore was actually received and Rs 125 crore was utilized.
Govt Engineering College, Nagrota, did extremely well in utilising funds and spent Rs 23 crore out of Rs 26 crore. Of the two colleges selected in backward districts of Sirmaur and Kinnaur, new building has been constructed at Model College, Sarahan, in Sirmaur district and Rs 7 crore of Rs 12 crore had been spent.
Government College, Reckong Peo in tribal Kinnaur district, was provided Rs 4 crore for upgrade of which Rs 2.5 crore had been spent. A pre-fabricated structure has been approved for the buildings as the college falls in the sinking zone.
