A two-day Bal Mela, an annual event to celebrate the birthday of former Transport Minister GS Bali organised. The medical camp was organised on the premises of Govt Senior Secondary School for Boys at Nagrota Bagwan. Free spectacles were given to the needy. As many as 150 visually impaired persons who visited the camp would be given a special cellphone on Friday. It has been designed by scientists from Delhi for education purpose. Setting aside all rumours that the mela was politically motivated, Bali said it was for the welfare of the needy, poor and downtrodden section of society.A cultural programme was also organised. ABOUT G.S. BALI Gurmukh Singh Bali is a former Member of the Legislative Assembly from Nagrota Bagwan, Himachal Pradesh, India. He was born on 27 July 1954 at Kangra. He is founder president of Himachal Nagrik Sudhar Sabha. He was Vice Chairman and later Chairman of the Himachal Social Bodies Federation. He was the Convener of the Indian National Congress Vichar Manch from 1990 to 1997. He was the President of the Congress Seva Dal from 1995 to 1998. He was also the Joint Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee from 1993 to 1998. He got elected to Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha in 1998 and was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2012. He was appointed as the Cabinet Minister for Transport on 6 March 2003.He lost to Arun Kumar from BJP in 2017 Assembly elections.
