The Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board has been selected for “SKOCH Order-of-Merit” award in the category of environment for launching the Pollution Abating Plants Abhiyan (PAPA) for the purification of air in towns and cities.
The award would be presented at the 53rd SKOCH Summit at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, on September 18. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had identified seven towns and cities of Himachal Pradesh, namely Baddi, Nalagarh, Parwanoo, Paonta Sahib, Sundernagar, Kala Amb and Damtal, under the non-attainment cities/ towns programme, where PM10 was found to be exceeding the prescribed National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) 2009 for four consecutive years from 2011 to 2015.
Following directions issued by the CPCB to take remedial measures, the abhiyan was launched in consultation with a number of stakeholders across the state to abate high air pollution. One more industrial cluster of Una, where pollution level was also observed to be high, was included under the abhiyan, raising the number of towns to eight.
Based on several research findings on air purifying plants, the state board identified a list of 27 outdoor plants and 18 indoor air purifying plants and decided to launch a massive plantation drive across all eight places in the state under the programme. Since the launch of the abhiyan, over two lakh air purifying outdoor and indoor saplings had been planted across the state, said member secretary of the board RK Pruthi.
Pollution Abating Plants Abhiyan (PAPA)
CM presiding over the State level function to launch Pollution Abating Plants Abhiyan (PAPA) on the occasion of World Environment Day-2018 celebrated at Government Polytechnic College Sundernagar in Mandi. Four million oxygen rich plants will be planted in eight selected polluted cities of the state .4 lakh Oxygen Rich plants will be planted in eight cities choked with pollution.
In addition to avoiding files and floor dust, the state secretariat and indoor courts will have indoor plants. For this, Jairam Sarkar has decided to start the Polling Achievement Plants Campaign (Papa) project from June 5. In the survey report of IIT Kanpur, it has been said that in the areas of Black Amb, Nahan, Baddi, Parwanoo, Nalagarh, It is difficult to breathe due to pollution in Sundernagar and Dumtal. In the coming time, living in these seven cities of the state will be misery.
Taking cognizance of the report, the state government has decided to plant oxygen plants in all those cities under Papa Project. Apart from this, the unauthorized heat has been included in the Papa project to cool down the city. The Pollution Control Board has prepared a blueprint for proving Papa Project to work on the ground.
Under this, eight cities of Himachal include Pipal , Banyan, Neem, Arjun, Bahera, Jamuna, Kanchanar, Two dozen species, including Amalat and Amla, will be planted with oxygen plants. Pollution Control Board will plant 50 thousand plants in each city. In this campaign, plantation of four lakh oxygen plants will be planted in eight cities of the state.
The research report says that special plantation plantation will get pure grief. This will bring relief to the cities of Himachal, which has been hit by pollution. In the long run, pollution-free environment will be possible in these cities. In,Himachal Pradesh Secretariat, which has more than one and a half thousand employees, is having trouble breathing. Due to this, 750 indoor plants will be installed in the Secretariat through Papa Project. On the same pattern, the target of planting of indoor plants between 150 and 250 in the Himachal Pradesh High Court has been set. According to official sources, the impact of the dust coming from the floor and the files should be stopped by planting Indoor Plants. These two important institutions will have a pure environment from indoor plants and a significant increase in the amount of oxygen will be recorded. This campaign will start from the first of July.

Other small steps to curb pollution The State Government has asked the Industries Department to prepare a project for setting up unit for pine needles. To conserve environment, he said one steel bottle would be provided to each Government School students in a phased manner to discourage use of plastic bottles under the Mukhiya Mantri Vardi Yojana. CM also urged the parents to buy steel bottles for their children instead of plastic bottles to help in environment conservation. Use of tharmacol plates and glass would be banned in the State as they were major cause of pollution. Similarly plastic water bottles less than one liter capacity would be banned in the public meetings.10 solid waste management plants would be established in different parts of the State for scientific management of waste and a ploytheme shedder machine would be provided for Sundernagar and Ghumarvin town.
