The district health society has kicked off a four-week campaign to promote and provide health services in rural areas through anganwadis as part of the National Nutrition Month.The first week (September 1 to 7), first-time pregnant women were given Rs 2,000 for their infant's vaccination. Another Rs 3,000 would be deposited in their bank accounts later.
In the second week (September 8-14), an exhibition on nutrition will be held at the anganwadis where people will be informed about locally available food that are rich in nutrients.In the third week (September 15-22), a discussion would be held on the right weight of adolescent girls and boys.
In the fourth week (September 23-30), students of schools in urban areas will be told about ways to spread awareness about nutrition at the grassroots level. The motive of this initiative is to spread awareness about nutrition and make it a mass movement.

Anganwadi :-
Anganwadi is a type of rural child care centre in India. They were started by the Indian government in 1975 as part of the Integrated Child Development Services program to combat child hunger and malnutrition. Anganwadi means "courtyard shelter" in Indian languages.
A typical Anganwadi centre provides basic health care in Indian villages. It is a part of the Indian public health care system. Basic health care activities include contraceptive counseling and supply, nutrition education and supplementation, as well as pre-school activities.The centres may be used as depots for oral rehydration salts, basic medicines and contraceptives.
As many as 13.3 lakh (a lakh is 100,000) Anganwadi and mini-Anganwadi centres (AWCs/mini-AWCs) are operational out of 13.7 lakh sanctioned AWCs/mini-AWCs, as of 31 January 2013. These centres provide supplementary nutrition, non-formal pre-school education, nutrition and health education, immunization, health check-up and referral services of which later three services are provided in convergence with public health systems
