Two Bills for changing name of Universities passed in Haryana Assembly

The Haryana Vidhan Sabha passed two Bills for changing the names of two prestigious Universities of Haryana in the ongoing Monsoon Session.

Facts :

• The Bills include YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad (Amendment) Bills, 2018 and the Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University (Amendment) Bills, 2018.
• The YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad (Amendment) Bills, 2018 has been passed to change the name of the YMCA University to J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad.
• Since the YMCA University of Science & Technology, Faridabad is getting 100 percent grant-in-aid, so the executive council of the University considered that the name of this University should be suitably replace in a manner to be identifiable as a Government University and hence, resolved to recommend the name as J.C. Bose University of Science & Technology.
• Similarly, the Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University (Amendment) Bills, 2018 was passed to change the name of the University to Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Haryana.
• The Authority would consist of the Chief Minister as chairperson, Minister In-charge for Irrigation and Water Resources and Minister In-charge for Development and Panchayats as senior vice-chairperson.
• A person of eminence in the field of water resources management will be appointed executive vice-chairman.
• However, the Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority Bill, 2018 was deferred to give more time to members to prepare for discussion in the Bill.
• The Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority Bill, 2018 aims to achieve the object of development, protection, rejuvenation, conservation, construction and management, utilisation of pond water for irrigation wherever required and utilisation of treated effluent of sewage treatment plants or effluent treatment plants for the purpose of irrigation and other uses.

Jagdish Chandra Bose :

• Dr. Jagdish Chandra Bose(30 November 1858 – 23 November 1937 ) born in Munsiganj, Bengal Presidency (present-day Bangladesh), during British governance of India, was a renowned scientist from India who had a deep knowledge of physical, biology, botany, and archaeology and an early writer of science fiction.
• He was the first scientist who did the work of optics of microwaves and radio science. IEEE named him one of the fathers of radio science.
• Bose is considered the father of Bengali science fiction, and also invented the crescograph, a device for measuring the growth of plants. A crater on the moon has been named in his honour.
• To commemorate his birth centenary in 1958, the JBNSTS scholarship programme was started in West Bengal. In the same year, India issued a postage stamp bearing his portrait.
• On 14 September 2012, Bose's experimental work in millimetre-band radio was recognised as an IEEE Milestone in Electrical and Computer Engineering, the first such recognition of a discovery in India.
• On 30 November 2016, Bose was celebrated in a Google Doodle on the 158th anniversary of his birth.
