New Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court

•  Justice Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court today. Governor Jagdish Mukhi administered the oath of office to Justice Bopanna at a function in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Darbur Hall in Raj Bhavan.
• Born on May 20, 1959, Justice Bopanna enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and practised in civil, constitutional, company, service matters in the Karnataka High Court as well as other civil and labour courts.

Gauhati High Court:

• The Gauhati High Court was established on 1 March 1948 after the Government of India Act 1935 was passed. It was originally known as the High Court of Assam and Nagaland, but renamed as Gauhati High Court in 1971 by the North East Areas Act, 1971.
• It has largest jurisdiction in terms of states, with its area covering the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram.
