Four years ago, a high-powered committee on railway safety had made far-reaching recommendations to avoid and reduce casualties in rail accidents like the one seen recently when the Indore-Patna Express train derailed, claiming over 100 lives. The committee was constituted in 2012 by then railway minister Dinesh Trivedi and chaired by former Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodkar. They were to be implemented over a course of five years. Four years have already gone by and not much seems to have been done.
