" CSC would be the platform for fundamental transformation of the ways in which development challenges would be met in rural India". the common service centre(csc) scheme popularly known as lokmitra kendra project in H.P. aims to establish 3366 e- governance centre at panchyat level in the state. The scheme as approved by the government of India, envisions CSCs as the front end delivery points for governance, private and social sector services to rural citizens of India, in an integrated manner. centres are established under the public private partnership (ppp). Objectives: better dissemination of government info. at the remotest corner, resulting in better awareness among rural masses about various govt. schemes and bringing in transparency. saving in time and cost of people visiting distt. H.Q. time and again for getting info. lodging complaints and inquiring their status etc. reduction in response time by the concerned dept. and increase in their accountability to people of the state. virtual extension counters for the governance, by way of using these centres for getting the departmental data entered and transmitted from time to time. a platform for the people to ineract with each other on areas of mutual interests e.g. matrimonial, sales/ purchase etc. additional income opporunities from citizen info. centres by using them for general training, word processing and data entry jobs, and extending internet access. employment generation by opening up of citizen info. centre throughout in the private sector. facilitating the growth of of ISP( internet service providers) throughout the state . Implementation: the project was started on a pilot basis in distt. Hamirpur, funded by NABARD, as the first IT Project to any state government funded under RIDF ( RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT FUND) Scheme. project launched by the then cm of hp on 8 may, 2001.
