The Centre govt has opposed Election Commission's proposal to bar a candidate from contesting from two assembly or Parliamentary constituencies during elections . In its affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Monday centre has said that amending section 33 ( 7) od the Representation of the People Act , 1951 may cause the infringement of the rights of the candidates contesting elections as well as curtails choice of candidates to the polity.
Earlier in April the election commission in its affidavit had said that it had made a proposal to the govt in 2004 and 2016 to amend the provisions of the concerned Act to restrict the contest from one constituency .
