Located in old Goa, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is one of the oldest churches in Goa. A UNESCO World Heritage site... the basilica holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier, 16th century missionalry and a pivotal figure in the spread of Christianity outside Europe. 'Bom Jesus' literally meaning 'Good or Holy Jesus’ is the term often used in the countries of Portuguese colonization. The construction work on the church began in 1594 and it was consecrated in May 1605.
