Alauddin Khilji who called himself Sikander-e-saani had commissioned the construction of Alai Minar. Though the Work had begun on the structure opposite the Qutub, due to the death of Khilji the construction was abandoned, never to be taken up by any other ruler.
Even in its incomplete state, the magnitude of Alai Minar is awe-inspiring. It stands a lot wider at the base than the Qutub Minar, and though just one storey exists, it stands (24.3 meter) 80 ft. one third the size of its older counterpart.
Probably the only un?nished monument in Delhi is a marvel to behold for nothing induces more wonder than a strong first step with an allusion of 'how great things could have been’.
